Henry Newquist is a jazz and bass trombonist, Based in the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles. Having earned a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Trombone Performance at the Oberlin Conservatory, where he studied with renowned trombonist and composer Jay Ashby. At Oberlin, Henry has also worked closely with esteemed faculty including Gerald Cannon, Chris Anderson, Dan Wall, Chris Coles, Luis Perdomo, Paul Samuels and Bobby Ferrazza. Henry is currently pursuing a Master’s of Jazz Trombone at The University of Southern California where he studies with trombonist and composer Jon Hatamiya.
Rooted in a deep passion for jazz and improvisation, Henry growing up in the Bay Area spent five years studying trombone with Spencer Sussman and two years studying jazz piano and theory with Joe Simiele.
Henry is an active performer, bandleader, and collaborator. He has played with the Oberlin Jazz Ensemble, where he has shared the stage with Grammy Award-winning artists such as Steve Davis, Andre Hayward, Jake Silverman, Joe Magnarelli, and Jay Ashby.
He is a multi genre freelancer across the Bay Area having performed throughout Northern California. He was a member of The Late Shift, a genre-fluid ensemble performing jazz, funk, pop, and soul across the East Coast and Midwest.
